Our roots are in branding and advertising for large corporations like General Motors and Bell Canada, and in the writing, editing and publishing of various magazines, and in creating cost-effective marketing solutions within the public sector.

In 2008, we brought our collective histories together, and created Clevers Media – an endeavour we love.

Geist magazine

We manage advertising sales, and create partnerships and sponsorships that help Geist get exposure to new like-minded audiences.  We’ve also invented a number of unique online ideas and solutions for Geist that have resulted in a number of additional revenue streams for the magazine.

Geistis a literary magazine published quarterly out of Vancouver. It was first published in 1990 and is now Canada’s largest literary magazine.

Vancouver International Fringe Festival

We sell advertising space in the Vancouver International Fringe Festival Program Guide, their monthly e-newsletter, and on the Fringe Festival downloadable Mobile App.

 The Vancouver Fringe is a celebration of all kinds of theatre with more than 80 different theatre artists sharing their creativity.  It is British Columbia’s largest theatre festival and North America’s most international Fringe Fest.  The Fringe boasts 754 performances by 97 groups over 11 days, and it attracts over 30,000 attendees.

Musicworks Magazine

We manage the advertising sales for this growing international music publication and have developed several new revenue streams on their behalf including an e-newsletter which sells out each month, the creation of a writing contest and a music composition contest, which brought in various sponsorship opportunities, and the development of a comprehensive Media Kit which included a number of new properties we invented to sell on their behalf.

Musicworks Magazine brings together a community of musicians, composers, sound artists and listeners that enjoy a multitude of styles and genres, from electroacoustics and sound installations to new instruments and multimedia performance pieces.  Subscriber copies include a specially-curated CD that features the music discussed in the magazine.

Broken Pencil magazine

We manage advertising sales for Broken Pencil, in addition to securing paid sponsorships for Canzine (an annual one day festival that takes place in Toronto and Vancouver where exhibitors from across Canada gather to exhibit their zines, comics, books, and other independently published projects). We also work with Broken Pencil on marketing and monetizing “The Nub”, a mobile app featuring Canadian content curated from independent literary, arts and cultural magazines.

Broken Pencil: the magazine of zine culture and the independent arts is the definitive guide to independent publishing and culture in Canada. Founded in 1995 to promote Canadian indie publishing and culture, the magazine is an award winning, recognized leader in chronicling North American underground culture.

Editors Association of Canada

We developed an e-publishing strategy for the EAC’s publication “Editing Canadian English” as well as providing training seminars that educated them in the areas of overall digital communication strategies and social media marketing and tactics.

The EAC is a not-for-profit organization that promotes professional editing as key in producing effective communication in Canada.  With over 1,600 members who work with individuals in the corporate, technical, government, not-for-profit and publishing sectors, they provide resources, professional development seminars, promote and maintains high standards of editing and publishing in Canada, establish guidelines to help editors secure fair pay and good working conditions, help both in-house and freelance editors to network, and cooperate with other publishing associations.

University of British Columbia

UBC hired us to develop an advertising campaign to promote their Optional Residency MFA in Creative Writing program, in addition to recommending a media buy.  We combed through previous campaigns and the demographic data provided by the university and finally found a treasure trove in their student evaluation forms.  With a bit of imagination and the target market firmly planted in our minds, our team developed the “Where I’m Writing From” campaign.  The campaign is alive and well on their website, and has attracted the attention of other universities.

The UBC Optional Residency MFA in Creative Writing attracts students from all over the globe – from across North America and beyond (everywhere from Den Haag in the Netherlands to Santiago in Chile).  Students take distance education classes online while remaining at home.  Optional summer intensives on the Vancouver campus of UBC enable them to meet faculty and other students face-to-face, and provide a complement to the work performed online. The optional-residency program mirrors UBC’s highly-regarded residential MFA. Students graduate with the same degree, and are evaluated by the same criteria and standards.

ChiZine Publications

We are very excited to be working with ChiZine Publications throughout the spring of 2013.  We’ll be working with them to create a marketing plan to take their promotional efforts to the next level. ChiZine is a small, independent publisher of surreal, subtle, disturbing dark fiction in trade paperbacks and eBooks. They have been publishing since 1998. CZP is an offshoot of the online magazine, Chiaroscuro: Treatments of Light and Shade in Words, which has been running since 1997.
